ActiveWatch concluded, after monitoring the programs from main TV stations during electoral campaign, that it was profoundly affected, with Antena 3 and Romania TV focusing on criticizing ARD members and Romanian president Traian Basescu, while B1 TV criticized exclusively Ponta’s Cabinet and USL.
The analysis included 9 TV stations: Antena 1, Antena 3, B1 TV, Digi 24, OTV, Pro TV, Realitatea TV, Romania TV şi TVR 1.
Among the identified problems, there were:
- Unbalance between presented political forces and opinions, with monitored TV mainly promoting the main political actors
- In relation with the political actors, TV didn’t maintained a neutral position and most were taking sides Still, Antena 1, Digi 24, Pro TV and TVR 1 had a neutral approach towards political actors
- Debates weren’t made in a neutral and professional way: there weren’t authentic confrontations, some TVs allowed candidates to launch personal attacks against their political adversaries
- TVs agendas and debates formats were adapted to the electoral period
