The negotiations to take over Gazeta Sporturilor by Swiss group Ringier stopped. According to sources close to Ringier, the discussions with Intact were blocked after the Swiss group started already the audit procedure.
The same sources said that Intact Group increased the demanded price after Mediafax Group closed the rival sports daily, ProSport. According to paginademedia.ro’s info, the new Intact offer wasn’t accepted by the Swiss group, that was undergoing an audit procedure with help from KPMG.
Contacted by paginademedia.ro, Mihnea Vasiliu, General Manager Ringier Romania, didn’t comment the info. Until the publishing of this news, Intact’s officials couldn’t be contacted.
“It doesn’t help for anything to try to do good to someone, if that someone doesn’t want. In rest, the actual team from Gazeta Sporturilor started from scratch three times and was a winner all those three times”, Ovidiu Ioanitoaia stated, for paginademedia.ro.
Second option: Ringier wants GSP’s team
After the negotiations to take over Gazeta Sporturilor were interrupted, Ringier is using its second option. According to sources close to the Swiss group, Ringier intends to negotiate to take over the redactional team of Gazeta Sporturilor. This option will mean that Ringier will launch a new sports title.
The discussions between Ringier and Intact were going on for months. During negotiations, another “actor” appeared, Adrian Sarbu. From Paginademedia.ro’s info, Mediafax Group’s chief showed his interest for a part of Gazeta sporturilor’s team.
